The School of Continuing Studies is preparing the T2202 Tuition and Enrolment Certificates for eligible courses for the 2024 tax year.
To help our office prepare to issue this tax form for you and in accordance with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines, please take a moment to review the following important T2202 information below.
CRA Requirement Reminder
As of 2019, the CRA now requires a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to be displayed on the T2202 form issued each year.
What does this mean for me?
If you are eligible and intend to submit a T2202 tax form with the CRA, you must provide your SIN number to your educational institution for the purpose of preparing your tax certificate.
To ensure our office can meet this CRA requirement, if you have not done so already, we ask you to update your SCS student profile to include your SIN information by Friday February 14, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. (EST), to ensure this information is included in your T2202 tax form this year that must be shared with the CRA for reporting purposes.
If you do not update your profile by the above-mentioned date our office cannot guarantee that your T2202 issued to the CRA will include this SIN information, and this field will appear blank. While our office cannot comment or advise on the impact of missing SIN information on your T2202 tax claim, following Friday February 14, 2025 our office will not submit any adjustments to the CRA for these reasons.
If a T2202 has already been filed with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the SIN cannot be retroactively added. However, the SIN can be updated for future tax years. Learners can still claim the credits by submitting their tax slips for prior years directly to the CRA, as was the practice before the implementation of new tax upload requirements in 2019.
For reference, please see the CRA guidelines regarding the T2202 process.
Important Note: This information is only requested and collected for the purposes of submitting T2202 tax forms in accordance with CRA regulations. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the collection of this information, please contact scs.privacy@utoronto.ca.
For security reasons, and to best protect our learner information, please do not email or send this SIN information to our office. Please be advised that our staff will not be able to view or update this SIN information inputted on your learner profile.

FAQs
Our office has also provided some helpful information based on commonly asked tax questions we receive each year below for your reference:
When will I receive my 2024 T2202 form?
The T2202 form will be released on your MyAccess Page at the end of February 2025.
Note: The T2202 form will be available on the MyAccess Page for tax years from 2018 onwards. In accordance to the CRA, tax forms will not be provided for years beyond seven calendar years from the current tax year.
How do I know if the course I took is eligible for the T2202?
The CRA provides defined course and program criteria to be eligible for the T2202 each year. For more information please visit the CRA website directly.
Note: SCS staff cannot provide tax-related guidance or advice to learners. In-depth questions regarding the use of the T2202 form should be directed to the CRA directly for further assistance.
I paid for a Winter 2025 course in 2024, why do I not see the tuition fee amount paid on my 2024 T2202?
In accordance with the CRA, tuition fees can only be claimed in the same tax calendar year as the course took place. If you paid for a course in 2024, but it takes place in the 2025 tax calendar year you can expect to receive a T2202 for 2025 that reflects this tuition fee amount, if the course is tax eligible.
I took a course that started in September 2024, but ends in 2025, my tax form only shows a portion of the tuition fee paid in 2024. Is this an error?
No. In accordance with the CRA, tuition fees are prorated based on the number of months a course took place within a tax calendar year. If a portion of the course took place in 2024, only a portion of the tuition fee will be reflected on the T2202 for 2024. The remaining tuition fee paid for the course and any eligible part time months that occurred in 2025 will be reflected on the 2025 T2202 available next year.
I completed a bootcamp course with edX or Circuit Stream, where can I obtain my T2202?
As defined by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the UofT SCS Boot Camp and Circuit Stream programs are not specified or qualifying educational programs under the taxation guidelines, and therefore not eligible for the federal tuition tax credit or the Ontario education and tuition tax credits. For this reason, a Tuition and Enrolment Certificate (T2202) will not be issued for these programs.
I received financial assistance from SCS in 2024, when I can expect to receive my T4A?
Learners who received financial assistance for a 2024 course and eligible to receive a T4A will receive this tax form in the mail. T4As are sent out centrally by the University of Toronto in approximately mid-February of the following year of registration.
